Digital Defense Group wins Navy SBIR Phase I

Digital Defense Group wins Navy SBIR Phase I award for a compact, lightweight and fully integrated biometric enrollment and matching solution for the Navy that will present a seamless way to identify individuals.

SUMMARY OF THE NAVY PROJECT:
Complex individual components work well on their own, but present user challenges when all components are needed to complete disparate identification, computing and power management functions. Digital Defense Group (DDG) has demonstrated ability to integrate multiple hardware and software components into an easy to use product platform. Therefore, we see an opportunity to leverage our biometric, engineering, integration and software development talents to produce the device that will meet Navy requirements and allow an open architecture for expansion.

Writing Tip: Benefiting from the Economic Stimulus Bill & Getting More F&A on Your NIH Phase II

Lots of important things happening in the SBIR/STTR world, so wanted to provide some information and suggestions on two topics this month.

Benefiting from the Stimulus Bill

As you know, Congress recently passed the huge economic stimulus bill that (among a lot of other things) pumps a lot of additional money into the SBIR/STTR agencies (except at NIH, which worked to exempt its additional dollars from SBIR/STTR, a sore point with many of us). This money has to be used "promptly" by the agencies, but they have to deal with Federal procurement regulations that will slow down that process.
But, if you are a Phase 2 SBIR/STTR award recipient, you can help out: having gone through competition to win your Phase 1 and then Phase 2 grant or contract, the Federal government can now award you subsequent funds on the same project as a sole source contract or grant-meaning no competition, no RFP, no evaluation of proposals, or, in other words, QUICKLY
